About Our Fence
What is a Pet Playgrounds fence?
Creating a secure outdoor space can help your dog expel all that excess energy, leading to a calmer demeanor indoors and bringing you peace of mind.
Pet Playgrounds is a real physical dog fence kit. It is NOT an electric fence. It comes with all of the components you will need to create a safe and secure play space for your dog. Unlike invisible electric fences that only attempt to keep your dog in your yard, our physical dog fence stops predators — like coyotes — from entering your enclosure. Our product has two main features that separate it from all other fencing systems.
Anti-Climb Feature: Unlike traditional rigid fences, our fence is a mesh-based fencing system that moves. Dogs can't use our fence like a ladder to climb over. When a dog tries to climb over, it simply flexes so no dog can get a grip.
Anti-Dig Feature: Even if you have a physical fence, dogs can dig under your fence to escape. We have eliminated this possibility by creating a dig guard — a strong steel mesh layer that is secured into the ground using our ultra-hold ground stakes.
Providing your dog with a secure outdoor space not only enhances their physical health but also improves their mental well-being. A properly contained yard allows your dog to explore and play safely, reducing anxiety and destructive behaviors.
New Bitter Pro Infused Anti-Chew
Our poly mesh is infused with a bitter anti-chew formula on all sides.
- Long lasting effectiveness due to controlled release of active ingredients (approximately 10–15 years)
- Effective at low addition levels (3–4% of master batch or 0.3–0.4% of active additive)
- Easy dispersion without affecting poly properties
- Human safe, ecologically safe, and RoHS compliant
Even if a dog bites the poly once, they get dissuaded from biting again due to the highly bitter taste. Dogs know that spicy and bitter are not tasty flavors — they are associated with unsafe foods in the wild, and as a result, dogs instinctively avoid bitter things.
What are common methods dogs use to escape from yards?
Understanding how dogs typically escape can help you choose a more effective containment strategy. Here are the most common methods:
- Climbing: Dogs are surprisingly good climbers, especially on chain link fences where evenly spaced slots act like ladder rungs.
- Digging: Many dogs dig their way out, especially under chain link fences. A dog can easily create a hole beneath a traditional fence and squeeze through.
- Squeezing through gaps: Small or agile dogs can wiggle through wide picket spacing or gaps in fencing.
- Jumping: Some dogs have an impressive vertical leap that clears fences that seem tall enough.
- Chewing: Dogs with strong jaws can chew through fences made from weaker materials like wood or certain plastics.
- Opening gates: Intelligent dogs can learn to manipulate simple gate latches, providing an easy route for escape.
By identifying how your dog is escaping, you can better tailor your fencing solution to address that specific behavior.
How does this stop my dog from climbing?
Traditional fences (like chain link) act like ladders and actually help dogs climb over. Our fence eliminates that possibility. The strength prevents chewing through, and the flexibility stops climbing — when a dog pushes against it, the fence simply moves, so they can't get a grip.
Addressing fence-patrolling behavior: Dogs that pace up and down fences are often looking for other dogs or people nearby. To reduce this, opt for a tall fence your dog can't see over while on their hind legs, and ensure it's a solid mesh rather than widely-spaced posts. This significantly reduces distractions and helps manage the behavior.
How will this stop my dog from digging?
Unlike traditional fences, our fence does not end when it meets the ground — it keeps going for about a foot. Our fence comes with a dig guard made from a strong 19-gauge steel mesh layer that is secured to the ground with ultra-hold ground stakes. Take a look at the video below — words can't accurately describe how it works.
How can I determine why my dog is escaping?
Understanding why your dog is trying to escape is crucial before investing in a fence. By observing their behavior closely during escape attempts, you can pinpoint the underlying cause.
- Loneliness: Dogs left alone outdoors for extended periods may escape to find companionship. Ensure they get enough indoor time and interaction.
- Boredom: High-energy dogs need more exercise and stimulation. A lack of physical activity leads them to seek ways out of the yard.
- Environmental attraction: If your dog smells or sees another animal or something intriguing outside, their natural curiosity may compel them to explore.
- Inadequate enclosure: A determined dog may not be stopped by an invisible fence. Physical barriers need to be tall and secure enough to prevent escapes.
By taking the time to understand your dog's specific needs and behaviors, you can choose the most effective way to keep them safe and contained.
Does the dig guard make it difficult to mow my lawn?
Not at all! In just a short time the dig guard will almost disappear into the grass and become one with the soil. This zen-like effect will allow you to mow right over the top of it and right up next to the fence.
Product Details
How does it look?
We have designed our fence to be as unobtrusive as possible. Just like a window screen, when you step back 10–15 feet you can barely even see it. If you have lots of trees in your backyard, you can make it even more invisible by using your existing trees as post replacements.
What heights do you offer?
We offer 4 types of fences:
- 5-foot tall dog fence
- 6-foot tall dog fence
- 6-foot tall MAX Strength dog fence
- 7-foot tall MAX Strength dog fence
Didn't you used to offer a 4-foot tall fence? Yes. We discontinued that height as it did not meet our 98% effectiveness target that our other heights have met or exceeded.
Does the dig guard reduce the height of my fence?
Not at all! When you order a 6-foot fence, the finished height of your fence will be 6 feet tall. The dig guard is an addition to the height of your fence — it extends below grade.
Does your kit come with a gate?
You can add gates to your kit when you place your order. We offer 5-foot wide gates (perfect for most commercial lawn mowers), 8-foot wide gates, and 14-foot driveway gates. In some cases you may use your garage as part of your enclosure and may not need a gate, so we give you the flexibility to decide whether you want a gate and how many you want.
How can I prevent my dog from opening gates?
Here are some effective strategies to ensure your dog stays within your yard:
- Install the gate correctly: Where possible, install the gate to swing toward the dog. This ensures that if your dog jumps against it, they push it shut rather than open.
- Use lockable latches: Some dogs are clever enough to nudge an unlatched gate open. A lockable latch provides an additional layer of security.
- Choose magnetic latching mechanisms: High-quality latches with magnetic actions ensure the gate remains firmly shut and is difficult to manipulate.
- Regular maintenance: Periodically check the gate and latch for wear and tear to prevent accidental escapes.
How strong is your fence?
Our 1,100-pound break strength polypropylene mesh uses a patented process that makes it both incredibly strong and remarkably flexible. The strength prevents chewing through and the flexibility stops climbing.
Our rubber-coated welded steel wire mesh — the main component of our dig guard — has 1,800 PSI of break strength. It's nearly impossible for animals to bite, rip, or tear through. Learn more about the components we use.
How does this compare to chain link? Chain link fences can only withstand about 1,500 PSI — roughly half as strong as our fence. Wood fences are even weaker at about 700 PSI.
More importantly, our fence isn't just strong — it's flexible, which makes it uniquely effective. This flexibility enhances durability and provides additional safety for pets that traditional rigid fences cannot offer.
Layout & Ordering
What is a Perimeter Loop Fence Layout and when is it suitable?
A perimeter loop fence layout is a fencing design where the fence encircles the entire property — including the front of the house — granting your dog access to both the front and backyard.
This layout is suitable when:
- Full property access is desired: Ideal for those who want their pet to freely roam across the entire property rather than a specific area.
- Property size allows for it: Suitable for larger properties where the perimeter loop provides ample space.
- Regulations permit it: Not all neighborhoods or HOAs allow extensive fencing — check local zoning laws first.
A perimeter loop layout ensures maximum space for your pet's enjoyment but requires careful consideration of local regulations.
How do I order?
You can order your Pet Playgrounds Dog Fence Kit online. You'll make product selections and receive an immediate on-screen quote for both materials and optional installation.
The first step is to measure your yard. Once you know how big an enclosure you want, simply:
- Select your fence height and type (5ft, 6ft, 6ft MAX, or 7ft MAX)
- Select the length you need
- Choose your gate options
- Select whether you want optional professional installation
- Finance through Affirm or pay by credit card or PayPal
How much does it cost?
Our prices are based on height and length:
- 5-foot tall kits — $9 per foot
- 6-foot tall kits — $10 per foot
- 6-foot tall MAX kits — $12 per foot
- 7-foot tall MAX kits — $14 per foot
What do most people get? The most popular kit is a 5-foot tall / 200 linear foot kit with a standard 5×5 gate — $1,850 for a DIY kit, or approximately $121/month through Affirm for customers with good credit.
What about installation? Installation costs $6 per linear foot and $175 per gate. In the example above, installation would add $1,375, bringing the total to $3,225 — or approximately $163/month through Affirm.
What's the next step? Measure your yard — it only takes a few minutes. Walk around your proposed play space and count your steps, then multiply by 2.5 to get linear feet.
I want a quote — can you come to my house and measure?
The first step is to measure your own yard — it's incredibly easy and takes just a few minutes. Every penny we save by not sending someone out is passed directly on to you (roughly $450 per fence).
Once you've measured, get an immediate on-screen quote.
But I want a professional to help me plan my layout. Shouldn't an installer look at my yard first?
Our fence is designed to be installed on virtually any type of property — rocky yards, steep hills, challenging obstacles. Installers do not need to visit prior to install day, which saves time and money for everyone.
Is there an installer near me?
Yes. We have installers in many states, and virtual installation assistance in all states. Typically installations can be completed within 14–30 days of your order. To find out how long installation will take in your specific area, call us at 800-753-4880.
Shipping & Payments
How long do I have to wait for my installation?
Typically, installation can be completed within 14–30 days of your order. To find out how long installation will take for your specific region, enter your zip code here.
Do you have financing or accept payments?
Yes! We offer financing through Affirm. Learn more about Affirm here.
Affirm is available only to shoppers residing in the United States. The annual percentage rate (APR) ranges from 0% to 30%. Affirm discloses all fees upfront before you make a purchase — no hidden fees, including no annual fees.
Subject to credit check and approval. Down payment may be required. Affirm loans are made by Cross River Bank, a New Jersey State Chartered Commercial Bank, Member FDIC.
What colors does the fence come in?
The fence comes in one color: black. We've found that black works best to blend in with natural surroundings — when you step back 10–15 feet, the fence nearly disappears.
Is your fence good for commercial applications?
Our fence works great for commercial applications like community dog parks and pet hotels. It's incredibly popular for community dog parks because thousands of dollars can be saved by having volunteers assemble our easy DIY kit.
We recommend a 5-foot tall kit with a minimum of 300 linear feet for a dog park with 4 gates. This allows you to create 2 separate play spaces (one for large dogs, one for small dogs) with a security gate system.
Since commercial applications typically don't use a building as one side of the enclosure, you'll need to add the free-standing enclosure option during checkout, which includes all components needed to assemble a standalone dog park.

Where do you ship your products?
We ship to the continental United States (all 48 states — we do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii) and to Canada.
United States: Your kit will arrive via FedEx from our South Carolina warehouse within 5 business days or less. You'll receive a tracking number when your packages ship. You may receive packages on separate days as FedEx has different shipment times for various components.
Canada: Your kit will arrive via Purolator within 10–21 business days. Your shipment may arrive on a pallet.
Do you offer a warranty or guarantee?
We offer a one-year warranty on any defective products that are shipped and a one-year warranty on professional installation. View our full shipping and returns policy.
Can I get a refund if my dog escapes?
There are too many variables for us to offer an escape guarantee. For example, an accidentally left-open gate, storm damage, or unusual wildlife encounters could all lead to an escape. For these reasons we don't offer an escape guarantee — but we will work with you to fix any issues, and repairs are rare, simple, and inexpensive.
We suggest ordering a 6-foot or 7-foot MAX fence if your dog is a Houdini escape artist. Our 12 years of engineering the MAX Strength fence has made it over 99% effective across thousands of installations. Please call us if you're unsure which fence to choose — 1-800-753-4880.
How long until my order arrives?
United States: Your kit will arrive via FedEx from South Carolina within 5 business days or less. You'll receive a FedEx tracking number when your packages ship. You may receive packages on different days.
Canada: Your kit will arrive via Purolator within 10–21 business days. Your shipment may arrive on a pallet.
Can I expedite my order?
Unfortunately, no. US customers receive their kit within 10 business days or less; Canadian customers within 10–21 business days. Many of the components we ship are oversized, making expedited shipping cost-prohibitive.
Comparisons & Discounts
Is this better than a wireless invisible fence?
Invisible wireless dog fences just don't work reliably. Studies show they fail nearly 30% of the time. Nearly a quarter of our customers are dog owners who first tried an invisible electric fence — only to find it didn't work for their dog.
At low shock levels, the jolt is too weak to stop an excited dog from chasing wildlife. At high levels, the dog may become scared or aggressive. A physical fence provides true freedom for your dog to play safely while keeping predators and stray animals out — something an invisible fence simply cannot do.

Do you offer any coupons or discounts?
We do! If you are ordering 300 feet or more, reach out to us and we will give you a special coupon code to save on your order in addition to free shipping (a $350 value).
Do you offer discounts for seniors or veterans? Yes! Just reach out to us at 1-800-753-4880.
We have worked hard to keep our prices low, and with the option to finance through Affirm, we believe we offer the most affordable real dog fence in the US and Canada.
Does your fence stop coyotes?
Yes. Typically, coyotes enter fenced yards by climbing over traditional chain link or wooden fences. Our fence prevents this because it physically moves when anything tries to climb it.
Other fences act like ladders that help coyotes climb over. Our flexible mesh means they can't get a grip. Watch the short video below to learn more.
Is your fence good for dog parks?
Our fence works great for community dog parks and pet hotels. It's incredibly popular because thousands of dollars can be saved by having volunteers assemble our easy DIY kit.
We recommend a 5-foot tall kit with a minimum of 300 linear feet for a dog park with 4 gates. This creates 2 separate play spaces (one for large dogs, one for small) with a security gate system so dogs can't run out when a new dog enters.
You'll need to add the free-standing enclosure option during checkout for a standalone dog park. Learn more about commercial applications.

I already have your fence — I need more parts
If you don't need an entire kit but need certain components, you can purchase them separately at petplaygroundsmore.com.
Please note that these accessories are designed for existing Pet Playgrounds customers. Many parts require items already included in our dog fence kits.
How many posts does your kit come with?
Our 5-foot and 6-foot dog fences require a post every 20 feet. Our 6-foot MAX and 7-foot MAX fences require a post every 15 feet. This is very different from traditional fencing systems that require a post every 8 feet — meaning far fewer holes to dig!
Do I need to order extra corner posts?
Your kit comes with one start post, one stop (end) post, and two corner posts. If you use one side of your house to complete the fence (purchasing only 3 sides), you will not need to order anything extra — this is the default selection and is perfect for 95% of customers.
If you are creating an advanced layout such as a free-standing enclosure, you will need to order 2 extra corner posts.
I have installation questions

If you have questions, call our support line at (866) 985-8547.
I received my order but I received different heights — is this a mistake?
Nope! Our standard 5-foot and 6-foot fences come with 2 layers, and our MAX Strength fences come with 3 layers. Here's what you received:
- The first layer is a metal mesh that functions as both the dig guard and chew guard. It is 4 feet tall, even in a 5-foot or 6-foot fence.
- The second layer is the polypropylene mesh installed on top. It needs to be at the top of the fence by itself — this allows the fence to physically move, which is what makes it so difficult to climb.
Watch our installation video to see how the layers are installed.
What are the potential risks of not having a secure fence for my dogs?
1. Safety hazards for your dog
Without a secure fence, your dog is exposed to numerous dangers — wandering into the street, getting lost, or falling prey to wildlife.
2. Risk to other pets and people
Even the friendliest dogs can become territorial or scared, leading to potential altercations with neighbors, children, or other pets.
3. Impact on the local environment
Dogs have natural instincts to explore, dig, and sometimes destroy. A secure fence helps minimize damage to local flora and fauna habitats.
4. Potential for legal issues
In many areas, pet owners are legally responsible for their dogs' actions. If your dog causes damage or injury while roaming free, you could face costly fines or legal battles.
Investing in a physical fence ensures a safe, controlled environment for your dog — and true peace of mind for you.
