How it Works

Stop your Dog from Climbing Over or Digging Under

15 years of engineering, 12 or 13 components & 10 easy steps for a Real Dog Fence

How it Works & What's in a Kit

Our Dog Fence Kits include everything needed to easily install up to 150 feet per day on almost any terrain — no landscaping or concrete required. Pet Playgrounds utilizes 4 levels of protection in our exclusive enclosures. Let us help you get the right strength enclosure for your dog(s), property type, and budget.

All kits include a few extra feet of both metal meshes, plus our new Bitter Pro infused anti-chew poly mesh on all 5' and 6' tall kits at no extra cost for a limited time. More protection and additional length are always beneficial. If you're unsure about the level of protection you need, call us for a brief conversation that can change your dog's life.

What Comes in Your Kit?

Scroll down to explore all 13 components. Each one is carefully selected to give your dog the ultimate secure enclosure — strong enough to contain any breed on any terrain.

1

No-Dig Sleeves

No-Dig Sleeves — no shovels needed

You will receive a NO-DIG sleeve for every fence post — say goodbye to post hole diggers and shovels! Simply place the driving anvil on top of the sleeve and pound it into the ground with a sledgehammer. Fence posts slide right in with no digging or concrete required.

Traditional fences require very specific post spacing; our system is more forgiving, making installation much easier. Hit a rock? Just move 2-4 feet in another direction and try again. It’s that simple.

2

Polypropylene Mesh

Polypropylene Mesh with Bitter-Pro

Our 1,100 lb break-strength Polypropylene Mesh features a 1" square opening that is both incredibly strong and remarkably flexible. The small openings add chew protection alongside the metal layers, and our newest Bitter Pro poly adds even more protection with a bitter taste infused into the material.

The flexibility prevents dogs from climbing over — traditional chain-link fences act like ladders and actively help dogs climb. Our fence makes escape nearly impossible in or out.

🌶️ Bitter-Pro anti-chew infusion now included on all 5' and 6' tall kits!

3

PVC Coated Steel Wire

PVC Coated Steel Wire mesh
Max vs Regular fence comparison

Dogs often try to dig under fences first. Our dig guard is constructed from PVC-coated, welded steel wire mesh with a break strength of 1,800 PSI — making it highly unlikely for any animal to bite, rip, or tear through. Combined with our kinked ground stakes, the system holds firm even on the most uneven terrain.

Why is strength so important?

Dogs have powerful jaws, but their strength goes beyond biting. They can pull, twist, shake, and use their body weight as leverage. A dog's bite alone can exceed 800 PSI, but additional forces from body weight and rapid movement can create pressure exceeding 2,000 PSI. Our Max Strength Fencing System is designed to withstand forces of nearly 2,900 PSI, featuring three layers of combined protection.

My dog can get through anything!

Our MAX Strength fences feature Bitter Pro anti-chew technology, 2 layers of steel mesh, three steel rail cables, and our patented bitter pro poly. The MAX Strength kit adds a third steel mesh layer, making it even harder to chew through. Our MAX fences withstand up to 3,000 PSI and have proven over 99% effective across thousands of installations in the U.S. and Canada over 15 years.

Is this better than chain link?

Absolutely. Chain link fences are simple to climb and dig under. They aren't layered — the weakest points are the C-clips holding the chain link to the rails, which frequently fail under pressure. Uneven ground is nearly impossible to secure with chain link.

4

Max Strength Layer MAX Kits Only

All 3 materials in Max Strength kit

Our standard kit is engineered to withstand up to 2,900 PSI — perfect for most dogs. But for the most determined chewers, we added a third layer: 19-gauge, steel, vinyl-coated welded wire mesh with a 1/2" opening. Combined with our two standard layers, the fence can withstand up to 4,000 PSI.

The holes don't align between layers, making it nearly impossible for a dog to get their teeth in. For reference: standard chain link handles ~1,000 PSI; wood fences 550–700 PSI; vinyl even less. We've had falling trees that couldn't break our fence. Its slight flex — similar to a suspension bridge — lets all 12–13 components work together effectively.

We offer support seven days a week, along with detailed installation videos and written instructions — use both for the best results, especially for MAX installations at 6 or 7 feet.

5

Driving Anvil

Driving Cap

A driving anvil is placed on top of BOTH sizes of our no-dig sleeves (the smaller 1 5/8 size for line posts and the larger 2 ½ size for corner/end posts) so you can use a sledgehammer to pound them into the ground – protecting each sleeve and ensuring a clean, straight installation every time.

6

Steel Tension Cable

Steel Tension Cable diagram

Our 12-gauge vinyl-coated, braided steel tension cable is tested to withstand 1,200 PSI. Simply feed it through the threaded eye loop on every post collar — it's the easiest part of the install, and it keeps the fence nearly invisible. Unlike traditional rails that block your view and limit section size, our cable system maintains a low profile similar to modern railings.

All kits include steel cable rails: 2 for standard kits, 3 for Max Strength 6' kits. Cabled rails make the fence almost impossible to climb, simple to install on hills or uneven ground, and resilient in severe weather of any kind.

7

Round Post Collars

Round Post Collars — exclusive to Pet Playgrounds

This feature is exclusive to Pet Playgrounds. Simply slide the post collar on each post and tighten by hand, then slide the braided steel cable through each pre-installed threaded eye loop to create cable sections in a rectangle — every three posts. Simple, elegant, and highly effective. The installation video explains it best.

8

Fence Posts

Fence Posts

Our 16 gauge black powder coated galvanized steel fence posts measure 1 5/8” for line posts and 2 ½ for corner and end posts. They are built to last in the harshest weather, from Arizona to Canada. Each post is a foot taller than your finished height so it slides securely into the NO-DIG sleeve.

A key component of any successful fence to keep animals in or out is strength. Our post and fence framework is engineered to be the strongest and most effective possible to keep your pets safe.

9

Corner Posts & End Posts

Corner Post Kits

Corner posts are typically used where your fence makes a right angle and include two diagonal braces with our patented EZ-Brace system – End posts are used where the fence stops (like ending at a building) and include one diagonal brace. A typical backyard fence, for example, would start at your home, go into the backyard, and return to your home – using two end posts with braces and two corner posts with braces. Not every configuration is the same – it’s why we don’t include (and charge you for) extra parts you may not want or need.

10

Kinked Ground Stakes

Ultra-Hold Ground Stakes

These 12" ground stakes secure the dig guard to the ground and prevent dogs from digging under the fence. The unique zig-zag shape provides a firm hold in the soil, and the 1/4" thick galvanized steel makes them strong and rust-resistant — even in wet or rocky terrain.

11

Gripples

Gripple Cam Locks

We exclusively use Gripple tensioning connectors – it’s the easiest way to attach and tighten our tension cable system. These Gripples contain small ceramic rollers that make tightening simple — no special tools or excessive physical strength required. Just another refinement from 15 years of providing reliable, affordable dog fencing.

12

Hog Ringer with Hogrings

Hog Ringer with D-Rings

We include a Hog Ringer (also known as a Hog Ring Plier) in every kit. It's lightweight, allowing you to easily fasten the small hogrings with one hand. This secures the fencing material to the tension cable and attaches fence to fence. You'll receive the appropriate amount of rings for the length of kit you order. The hogrings are black to blend in with your entire fence system.

13

Threaded Eye Bolts (optional add on)

Eye loops installed on trees
Threaded Eye Loop hardware

Want to use trees, sheds, or other structures as fence posts? These black galvanized threaded eye bolts (also known as lag eye bolts) can be quickly and easily installed, saving you time and money. They are available separately in our parts section for purchase, along with an eye bolt speed driver (attaches to your drill) to help drive them in. These bolts are not necessary for every installation, it would not make sense for us to include (and charge you for them) in every kit.

14

Galvanized Sleeve Spikes and Magnetic Level

Nails
Magnetic Level

We include galvanized sleeve spikes (for extra post security) and a magnetic level in every kit to help with installation. Just like hanging a picture on a wall, these tools help you plumb and level your posts for a clean, professional-looking installation every time.
